Sierra Sellers used her talents as a basketball player to get a college scholarship. Knowing she wasn’t set on playing for much longer, she went to a smaller school and majored in early childhood education. After quitting the basketball team, Sierra Sellers began to shift her free time to focus on music. The Pittsburgh native took early musical inspiration from Destiny’s Child, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, and India.Arie. Sierra taught herself how to play guitar and used her dorm room as a studio, even charging others to come in and record.

Kicking off her musical career, Sierra had a bit of stage fright, only to overcome it in 2018 at an Aretha Franklin tribute concert. In 2020, Sierra Sellers released her debut EP, Ophelia, named after a street in Oakland that she visited at 19 years old, shortly after beginning her journey in music. Sierra says that her time on Ophelia Street was very important to her, helping her find herself by experiencing different aspects of life and spending time with a diverse group of people. The project sees a balance of sounds, with standouts including “Grown” and “Good Time.” Beyond this project, Sierra Sellers has released a handful of singles, with the must-listen track being “Cookout.” Sierra Sellers also has a noteworthy feature on Caleb Thomas’s “2am” which also features fellow Pittsburgh native, Benji.

In April 2022, Sierra Sellers released “Sentimental” featuring WesWill.
