Blvck Svm aka Ben Glover fka Kid Wicked/Chief Wicked is a rapper from West Palm Beach, FL, currently living in Chicago, IL. Despite his whereabouts, Blvck Svm says that his sound is more fitting with New York-style rap, listing MF DOOM as his favorite rapper. He further describes his sound as lyrical, chill, sophisticated, and aesthetic. Fans may be drawn in by his ASMR voice. Other artists that inspired Blvck Svm include Lil Wayne, Young Thug, Migos, and Gucci Mane, but he says that most recently, he is inspired by Westside Gunn and Griselda. Blvck Svm has been a lifelong fan of hip-hop, but marks the start of him becoming a rapper around 2012 when he was 15 years old, rapping at the lunch table. From there, he dabbled with rap, but didn’t decide to start taking it seriously and pursuing it as a career until he attended the University of Chicago. Not only did he kick off his rap career while attending school, but he also delivered a TED Talk, and later graduated with a degree in Comparative Racial and Ethnic Studies.

In 2019, Blvck Svm released his first full-length project, Yasuke. Shortly after, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, causing Svm to lose his job, move home, and make a decision as to what he wanted to do next. At the time, he had just 300 monthly listeners on Spotify. He considered putting his music career on pause and attending grad school, but instead, decided to make one last-ditch effort at music. Blvck Svm started releasing singles on a bi-weekly basis, starting with the song, “Bleach,” which as of 2022, has over 2 million streams on Spotify. In the next 2 years, Blvck Svm’s number of monthly Spotify listeners grew to over 180k monthly listeners. He has continued to regularly release singles, dropping over 40 songs since the release of “Bleach.” Other standout tracks include “Cactus,” “Tinnitus,” and the Sebastian Kamae and Roosevelt The Titan assisted, “Texture.”

In March 2022, Blvck Svm released the food-inspired project, Fiftypercentgratuity with Sebastian Kamae. The 5-track project, with 5 food-inspired names, and 1 feature from known foodie, Chow Mane is highlighted by the track, “Togarashi.” As for what’s to come, Blvck Svm will likely continue to regularly release singles for the foreseeable future. He also hopes to work with artists like JID, Valee, Action Bronson, Tierra Whack, Westside Gunn, and The Alchemist. Given his recent release inspired by his love for food, Fresh Scoops also predicts Blvck Svm to release music in the future inspired by his love for basketball, especially the Miami Heat.
